RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The City of Chicago approved a pilot program for dockless bike sharing running from May 1, 2018, until November 1, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The boundaries ofthe pilot program encompass a large portion of Chicago from 79th Street south to 138th Street, and from the Skyway west to Pulaski Road; and

WHEREAS, Traditional bike sharing programs LimeBike, Pace and Jump Mobility are participating in the program; and

WHEREAS, Divvy Bikes are not available on much ofthe south and west sides ofthe City, despite requests from residents and community leaders in those areas; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, LimeBike also offers electric scooters; and

WHEREAS, The growth of scooter operators creates concerns about difficulties associated with vehicles safely sharing city streets and avoiding sidewalk clutter; and

WHEREAS, All residents of the City of Chicago should have access to bike sharing technology and could strongly benefit from its presence in their communities; and

WHEREAS, Safely sharing the roads with traditional bikes, scooters, and pedestrians remains a priority for the City Council; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago call on the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation and representatives from Pace, Divvy, LimeBike and Jump Mobility to appear before the Committee on Transportation to discuss access to bike sharing in communities on the south and west sides of the City.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago call on the Commissioner ofthe Department of Transportation and representatives LimeBike to appear before the Committee on Transportation to discuss the impact of scooters on pedestrian roadways.
