NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY SESQUICENTENNIAL RESOLUTION/CLOMATION
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago, is pleased to congratulate Northeastern Illinois University on its sesquicentennial celebration during the academic year 2017-2018; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this special occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward,; and
WHEREAS, Northeastern Illinois University has served the Chicagoland area and beyond for 150 years, having graduated nearly 80,000 students who have strengthened the local workforce, made a positive difference in their communities and have transformed the lives of others just as the University has done to theirs; and
WHEREAS, Northeastern Illinois University is regarded as the most diverse regional university in the Midwest and is designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution; and
WHEREAS, Northeastern Illinois University is known for being the safest campus in the state, being among the nation's best for adult learners, and for having graduated students with the ninth-lowest student loan debt nationally among four-year colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, Northeastern Illinois University offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, sciences, education, and business, at five locations in the metropolitan area that include the North Park and Bronzeville neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Northeastern Illinois University is main campus is located in the 39th Ward; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, The City of Chicago and members of the City Council gather here to congratulate Northeastern Illinois University on its sesquicentennial celebration and extend our best wishes for continuing success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Northeastern Illinois University.
