RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Clarence William Boebel has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-eight; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence William Boebel was the loving husband of the late Phyllis; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence William Boebel was the much-adored father of Christopher, Barbara and Catherine, the grandfather of four and the great-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence William Boebel served during World War II as an ensign in the United States Navy on a destroyer and minesweeper in the Pacific; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence William Boebel devoted his professional life to advocating on behalf of the poor and served from 1961 to 1980 as the Executive Director of the Chicago Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers; and
 
WHEREAS, In that leadership role, Clarence William Boebel was a powerful voice for a variety of neighborhood organizations that placed economically disadvantaged young people in jobs; and
 
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, Clarence William Boebel retired to Nashville and in 2007 moved to Eagan, Minnesota; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Clarence William Boebel serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Clarence William Boebel was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Clarence William Boebel imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commemorate Clarence William Boebel for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clarence William Boebel.
