RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., was the devoted husband of Mary Jayne and the late Barbara; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., was the much-adored father of George III, Barbara, Betsey and Deborah, the grandfather of eleven and the great-grandfather of six to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University and served during World War II in the United States Army Air Forces; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., worked for Swift & Company and in 1969 founded the law firm of Burditt 85 Calkins; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in the mid-1960s, the Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., began serving the first of four terms as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., rose to become Assistant Majority Leader and revolutionized food and drug laws as a legislator; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., taught law at Northwestern University from 1967 to 1997; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr., for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable George Miller Burditt, Jr.
