RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ted Cook has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-three; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook was a military veteran and the husband of Patsy and the late Lettie; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook was the much-adored father of Richard, Jackie and Libby, the grandfather of eleven and the greatgrandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook enjoyed a long and highly successful career as an educator and was a high school teacher, assistant principal and coach; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook retired from Kentucky State Department of Education as the Director of Adult Education; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook served his country during World War II as a supply sergeant in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook was captured along with American and Filipino forces by the Japanese in 1942 and was a survivor of the Bataan Death March; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook was later taken by freighter to a Japanese steel mill where he remained a P.O.W. until the war ended; and
WHEREAS, The bravery, steadfast determination and sacrifice of Ted Cook serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ted Cook to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Ted Cook was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ted Cook imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commemorate Ted Cook for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the/family of Ted Cook.
