RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jack Pardee has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 76;and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Pardee was the beloved husband of Phyllis; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Pardee was the much-adored father of Steven, Judee, Anne, Susan and Ted and the cherished grandfather of twelve to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, A star fullback and linebacker at Texas A&M, Jack Pardee spent fifteen seasons as a linebacker with the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Redskins in the National Football League; and
 
WHEREAS, Named to the All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams in 1963, Jack Pardee was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986; and
 
WHEREAS, After retiring as a football player, Jack Pardee coached the Chicago Bears for three years and in 1977 led the team to their first playoff berth since 1963; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Pardee said his greatest moment with the Bears was "when Bob Thomas' kicked a 28-yard field goal with nine seconds left in an overtime game to give the Bears a 12-9 victory over the Giants in a snowstorm. That was our sixth in a row and gave us a playoff berth"; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1978 Jack Pardee left Chicago to coach the Washington Redskins and subsequently held positions coaching the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League, the University of Houston and the National Football League's Houston Oilers, whom he led to the playoffs four times in the early 1990s; and
 
WHEREAS, Jack Pardee set a high standard for excellence in sports and touched the lives of many with his generosity, kindness and consideration; and
 
WHEREAS, With his exemplary leadership, talent and dedication, Jack Pardee was an integral part of many memorable games that provided great enjoyment and excitement to Chicago Bears fans; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jack Pardee to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jack Pardee imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commemorate Jack Pardee for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Pardee.
