RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Anthony John Carothers, a widely admired member of the law enforcement community, has officially retired from the Chicago Police Department; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Anthony John Carothers began his career in 1982 as a Cook County Deputy Sheriff assigned to process inmates from the Cook County Jail to the Criminal Courts Building; and
 
WHEREAS, Anthony John Carothers joined the Chicago Police Department in 1985 and was first assigned to the 13th District; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1995 Anthony John Carothers was promoted to Detective and investigated violent crimes, including homicides, robberies and assaults in Area 4 and Area 5; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2001 Anthony John Carothers was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Public Housing South; and
 
WHEREAS, Anthony John Carothers continued to rise through the ranks when he became a Lieutenant in 2008 and was assigned to the 8th District as a Watch Commander; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2009 Anthony John Carothers was appointed Commanding Officer of Area 2 Homicide Investigations; and
 
WHEREAS, From 2010 to 2012, Anthony John Carothers served as Commander of the 7th District; and
 
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, Anthony John Carothers retired on January 29, 2013, as Executive Officer, Area Central Bureau of Patrol; and
 
WHEREAS, Anthony John Carothers is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Superintendent's Award of Merit and four department commendations; and
 
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Anthony John Carothers serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby express our appreciation to Anthony John Carothers for his many years of dedicated and able service on behalf of the people of the City of Chicago; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Anthony John Carothers.
