RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, David M. Jarmusz has officially retired as the Commander of the Public Transportation Section following forty-two years of distinguished service with the Chicago Police Department; and
 
WHEREAS, David M. Jarmusz began his long and illustrious career in law enforcement as a police cadet on February 1,1971, and was initially assigned to the Identification Section and later to the 004th District; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1973 David M. Jarmusz completed his training, was appointed to the rank of Patrol Officer, and again assigned to the 004th District where he worked uniformed patrol and the district's Vice Unit; and
 
WHEREAS, David M. Jarmusz later volunteered to join the citywide Special Operations Group where he worked specialized missions combating street crime patterns using unconventional methods of patrol; and
 
WHEREAS, David M. Jarmusz qualified and was assigned as one of the original members of the Hostage/Barricaded/Terrorist Team (later called SWAT); and
 
WHEREAS, In 1981 David M Jarmusz was promoted to the rank of Gang Specialist (Detective); and
 
WHEREAS, During the next seventeen years, while assigned to the Organized Crime Division, David M. Jarmusz conducted investigations into all phases of criminal street gang activity and worked on various state & federal task force squads; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1998 David M. Jarmusz was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was eventually assigned to the Detective Division (Area 2) where he was a Supervisor in the Homicide/Gang/Sex crimes section; and
 
WHEREAS, Davici M. Jarmusz volunteered for and was trained as a Supervising Sergeant in the newly created Detective Division — Heavy Weapons Team; and
 
 
WHEREAS, In' 2007 David M. Jarmusz was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the Area 1 Gang Operations detail where he directed daily gang, gun, and drug suppression missions with the federally funded Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), Saturation, and Gang Tactical teams; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2009, as a Captain, David M. Jarmusz went to 21st District and then the 004th District managing Primary Beat Cars, Rapid Response Teams, Foot Patrol Units, Mission Teams and School Patrol Units; and
 
WHEREAS, David M. Jarmusz was promoted to Commander in 2009 and assigned to the 009th District where he coordinated efforts between the three watches, the Tactical Teams, and various specialized units; anci
 
WHEREAS, In 2012 David M. Jarmusz was reassigned to the Public Transportation Section where he commanded numerous uniformed, tactical, and anti-terrorist personnel in the Visual Intermodal Prevention & Response (VIPR) teams & the Explosive Detection Canine Handlers group; and
 
WHEREAS, On March 15, 2013, Commander David M. Jarmusz retired after more than four decades of dedicated service; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor, and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Commander David M. Jarmusz on his many years of dedicated service on behalf of the people of the City of Chicago; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Commander David M. Jarmusz.
