WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this by 18m Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, I am pleased to recognize the Shen Yun Performing Arts shows taking place at the Cadillac Palace Theater in Chicago, May 10-12, 2013, presented by the mid-USA Falun Dafa Association; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun is an important cultural event that has been described by Broadway World as having "brilliant choreography" and being "extravagantly beautiful"; and
WHEREAS, Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is a performance company of mostly young people that is devoted to restoring the treasures of traditional Chinese culture while illuminating a deeper understanding of human life and the world; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2006, Shen Yun Performing Arts has well over 1,500 performances to its credit; it is the largest ensemble of Chinese dancers and musicians in the world and is widely considered the world's premier Chinese performance company; in 2011, Shen Yun toured over 30 countries and 130 cities; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts presents a Chinese dance art form that includes classical, ethnic, and folk styles, store-based dances depicting timeless legends, values and ideals spanning over 5,000 years of Chinese history, and entirely original choreography and musical scores; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts show is also a great deal of fun. It is a brilliant blend of beauty, energy and grace. It features dozens of dancers in dazzling costumes, extraordinary vocalist, and a live orchestra. Thunderous drums shake the stage and spectacular backdrops take you to another world; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this tenth day of April, 2013 A.D., we welcome you to the City of Chicago and wish the Shen Yun Performing Arts continued success in all their future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Shen Yun Performing Arts.
