TRIBUTE TO GLORIA M. HENDERSON
 
 
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal rest to Gloria M. Henderson, an outstanding citizen and member of her community; and
 
WHEREAS, Gloria was born in Greenwood, Mississippi on December 3, 1951 to Juanita Harris and John D. Billingsley Sr. After she and her mother moved to Chicago upon the passing of her father, Gloria became a member of the Usher Board for ten years at Greater Garfield Park Missionary Baptist Church; and
 
WHEREAS, Gloria Henderson graduated from Northeastern College and was employed with the State of Illinois as a clerk, eventually working for the Illinois Department of Human Services; and
 
WHEREAS, Gloria Henderson married Michael D. Hapson, Sr., and, to this union, two children were born, Michael Douglas, Jr. and Denise Michelle. She later married Henry Henderson on August 15, 1998. She became a member of his church, the Home of Life Missionary Baptist Church where she also served as an usher for six years and was appointed group leader. Gloria and her husband became owners and operators of Ruby's Soul Food Restaurant located on West Madison Street; and
 
WHEREAS, Gloria Henderson leaves behind her husband, Henry; two children, Michael Douglas, Jr. and Denise Michelle; three grandchildren, Jasmine, Claudius, and Tyree; her mother, Juanita Porter; six sisters, Sheba Porter, Deatrice Porter, Lois Miller, Faye Porter, Jill Givens, and Tujuana Williams; three brothers, John D. Billingley, Jr., Gregory Porter, and Jerome Porter as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; now therefore
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jason C. Ervin, Alderman of the 28th Ward, has informed this august body of the transition of Gloria M. Henderson; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council gathered together this 10th Day of April, 2013 AD, do hereby express our sincere sorrow at the passing of Gloria M. Henderson and extend our deepest condolences to her family and the many persons whose lives she touched.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Gloria M. Henderson.
