SALUTE TO BROTHER KONRAD DIEBOLD

WHEREAS, In June, 2013, Brother Konrad Diebold will be celebrating his retirement from Saint Patrick High School after 35 years of dedication and service to the community; and

WHEREAS, Brother Konrad joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1957 at the age of 20. In 1966, he received his Master in Education in addition to his Bachelor's degree in Art from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in 1961. He continued to further his education by taking graduate courses at Loyola, Northwestern, and DePaul as well as studying at the Universite of Montreal, at L'Alliance Francaise in Paris and at the Lasallian Institute Center in Rome; and

WHEREAS, Brother Konrad began teaching at Saint Patrick High School in 1961 and eventually transferred to Saint Paul High School on the south side of this city for a dual-enrollment program in cooperation with the neighboring John F. Kennedy, a public high school. He taught and was principal of the unique project from 1966 through 1974. After one year as a high school Curriculum Consultant with the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Education, he was called to province leadership for the Christian Brothers, serving as Auxiliary Provincial from 1975 through 1982; and

WHEREAS, After a study and sabbatical year in Europe, Brother Konrad returned to Saint Patrick High School as principal in 1983 and then as the first President in 1987. His accomplishments include developing the first Saint Patrick Board of Trustees: Vision 2000, a successful fundraising campaign; implementation of the mandatory drug-testing program; renovation of the athletic playing field; expansion of the administrative center; and most recently dedicated the newly renovated student cafeteria. Over the past five decades, he has served on numerous local and national boards, councils, and associations educationally related and mission driven.
