SALUTING LINCOLN PARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S EXCELLENCE IN ARTS & CULTURE AWARD.

WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1947, the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce has grown into

Chicago's largest neighborhood chamber; and .

WHEREAS, Each year, the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce hosts a gala Awands'liuncheon honoring the Chamber's most outstanding businesses in four categories: Retailer of the Year, Hospitality Business of the Year, Personal or Professional Service Provider of the Year and an Excellence in Arts & Culture Award; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Excellence in Arts & Culture Award goes to Emerald City Theatre Company who perform at the Apollo Theater Center in Lincoln Park and at Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place on the Magnificent Mile; and

WHEREAS, This outstanding troupe offers classes for children ranging in age from toddlers to 13 year-olds, developing their love for theater as well as other valuable life skills, and envisioning a day when participating in the arts will be considered as critical to a child's development as reading, writing or mathematics; and

WHEREAS, With an annual budget of $1,800,000, Emerald City Theatre Company is able to reach approximately 100,000 children, parents, and teachers, creating innovative theater experiences that inspire early learners. Throughout its history, Emerald City has developed and produced more than 26 new theatrical works; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Michele Smith, Alderman of the 43^rd Ward, has apprised this august body of the noteworthy honor bestowed upon this praiseworthy Lincoln Park neighborhood cultural beacon; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council gathered together this 10^lh Day of April, 2013 AD, do hereby salute Emerald City Theatre Company on the occasion of its prestigious award and extend our very best wishes for continuing success for many years to come.
