Resolution

WHEREAS, Florence Brady turns 101 on April 22, 2013; and,

WHEREAS, The City of Chicago City Council has been notified of her celebration by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Florence Brady was born April 22,1912, in the Oklahoma Panhandle just five years after the territory entered the Union. After obtaining her two-year teaching certificate, Florence taught in a one-room school, where her duties included firing up the wood'stove on cold winter mornings. Unusual for women in the early part of the 20:h century, she went to college, eventually earning a master's degree in economics from the University of Oklahoma. She then married the late Walt Sellers. Mr. Sellers died when the pair's two girls were only seven and Florence became a single working mother. She married Mike Brady after several years and the two raised the twins together. The couple moved into the A.dmiral Retirement Community in December 1994 where Mr-Brady died suddenly three years later. Following a hiatus during the construction of the new building at 929 West Foster, Florence returned "home" in January 2013, where she enjoys "the good food, good bed,-and good conversation".
WHEREAS, A great friend to many, Florence Brady's long life should be celebrated; therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, The Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago,, gathered here this day of April 10, 2013, do hereby express our joy in celebrating Florence Brady's momentous birthday; and

BE IT FURHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Florence Brady
