Resolution

 

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr., Chicago Fire Department, will be retiring after 31 years of outstanding and meritorious service to the residents of the City of Chicago; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr. joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1985. During his 31 years, he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2006, was an Emergency Medical Technician B, an Emergency Materials Technician A, and was assigned to Truck 47, Engine 79, Engine 11 and 3rd District Relief Lieutenant; and,

WHEREAS, For over 15 years, Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr. was a dedicated member of the Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2. Serving three terms, currently, he is the longest serving President. Prior to becoming President, he served as the Local 2 Steward, and Chairman of Local 2 Health and Safety, Military and Retiree Committees; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr. also served with the International Association of Firefighters Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Committee, International Association of Firefighters Policies Committee, Associated Firefighters of Illinois Constitution and By-Law Committee, Mayor Daley's Commission to Strengthen Chicago's Pension Funds, Chicago Pension Funds Disabilities Sub-committee, AFL-CIO Public Employment Committee, Amalgamated Bank Labor Council, City of Chicago Community Advisory Board, and the Richter Foundation Board; and,

WHEREAS, Throughout his many years of service, Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr. has served the people of the City with fairness, compassion, dedication, and a willingness to help and volunteer. He has earned the respect and admiration of those for his knowledge and personal attention, and he will be missed by all; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr. will commence on a new chapter of his life, with his wife, Lisa, and his sons, Zachary and Anthony, by cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks in their pursuant of their championship goals, and will have more time to enjoy his favorite hobby of fishing; and now therefore;

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this nineteenth day of April 2017 A.D., do hereby extend to Lieutenant Thomas E. Ryan, Jr., our sincere and grateful appreciation for his outstanding record of personal and professional achievement, and our best wishes to him and his family on his retirement; and,
