RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Latin School of Chicago, an independent, coeducational day school located on the Near North Side of Chicago, has been in the City of Chicago since 1888, and is located at 59 West North Boulevard; and
 
WHEREAS, Latin School will be celebrating its 125th year of its founding, and is the oldest independent day school in the City of Chicago.
 
WHEREAS, Latin School is an enduring example of academic excellence and has educated generations of Chicago's civic and business leaders
 
WHEREAS, it is part of Latin School's mission to provide educational opportunities to children from diverse backgrounds in neighborhoods throughout the city; and
 
WHEREAS, Latin School awards more than $3.1 million in need-based financial aid annually to students from 66 Chicago neighborhoods and nine area suburbs
 
WHEREAS, Latin School is a contributing member ofthe Chicago community, employing 245 area residents and spending more than $22 million salaries and benefits annually
 
WHEREAS, High school students at Latin School of Chicago contribute more than 7,600 service hours each year, working with dozens of Chicago social service organizations
 
WHEREAS, In 2012, Latin School embarked on a community partnership with the Uptown neighborhood, where students, faculty and families ofthe school work along side 22 Uptown neighborhood organizations and the 46th Ward office to assist with community improvement and service efforts
 
WHEREAS, Latin School helped found High Jump, a tuition-free academic enrichment program for talented Chicago middle school students with limited economic resources, in 1989, and has been a key supporter of High Jump as it has paved the way for more than 900 Chicago students to gain admission to top private, parochial, and public college preparatory schools.
 
WHEREAS, Latin School of Chicago has been a leading educational institution in the City of Chicago; and is celebrating its 125th anniversary; and
 
WHEREAS The Honorable Brendan Reilly, Alderman ofthe 42nd Ward, has apprised this august body of this noteworthy event; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby salute the 125th Anniversary of the founding of Latin School of Chicago and congratulate Latin School for providing 125 years of academic excellence to young people in the Chicagoland area; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Latin School of Chicago.
