Ladies and Gentlemen:
 
I transmit herewith a congratulatory resolution regarding Scottie Pippen, on his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and his appointment as Ambassador for the Chicago Bulls.

^OUbTCCIS' Tne Members of this Chamber wish to congratulate Scottie Pippen of the Chicago Bulls for his induction this year into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Pippen was born September 25, 1965, in Hamburg, Arkansas. After graduating from Hamburg High School, Mr. Pippen attended the University of Central Arkansas and graduated from there in 1987; and
 
WHEREAS, In the 1987 National Basketball Association draft, Mr. Pippen was drafted fifth in the first round by the Seattle SuperSonics. The Chicago Bulls had the number eight pick in the first round that year and were able to secure a trade, bringing Scottie Pippen to the Chicago Bulls; and
 
WHEREAS, Scottie Pippen would go on to become one of the greatest basketball players in the history of the National Basketball Association. Mr. Pippen's career spanned three decades, playing from 1987 until his retirement in 2004. He played in 1,178 games and amassed a total of 18,940 points during his storied career. Mr. Pippen is the Chicago Bulls' all-time leader in 3-point field goals. In addition, he played in 208 playoff games, second most of any player in NBA history; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Pippen's numerous accomplishments led to several distinguished awards and honors. Scottie Pippen was twice selected to play on the United States Olympic Basketball team (1992 and 1996), with both teams winning the Gold Medal. He was a seven-time NBA All-Star and played on six Chicago Bulls teams that won the National Basketball Association championship; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Pippen has had the great distinction of being named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. On December 9, 2005, the Chicago Bulls honored him by retiring his jersey, number 33. Mr. Pippen is one of only four players in Chicago Bulls history to have his number retired. On January 21, 2010, Mr. Pippen's Alma Mater, the University of Central Arkansas, retired his college jersey, number 33; and

WHEREAS, Scottie Pippen has done much to promote the game of basketball around the world. Mr. Pippen has made several trips to Russia and China, appearing at basketball camps and other functions on behalf of the National Basketball Association; and
 
WHEREAS, On July 15,2010, the Chicago Bulls announced that Mr. Pippen will be rejoining the team as an ambassador; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this eighth day of December, 2010, do hereby congratulate Scottie Pippen on being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and we wish him well in his new role as Ambassador for the Chicago Bulls; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Scottie Pippen as a sign of our congratulations and good wishes.
