RESOLUTION HONORING THE CAREER AND RETIREMENT OF ALAN CHANNING
WHEREAS, Alan Charming served for decades as a leader in the safety-net health care community, serving most recently as the President and CEO of Sinai Health Systems in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, under Mr. Channing's leadership Sinai Health Systems increased in size while also experiencing some of its most profitable years in history; and
WHEREAS, that success can be attributed to the merger he helped orchestrate between Mt. Sinai Hospital and its neighbor Holy Cross Hospital; and
WHEREAS, that merger alone created a private safety-net system that yielded more than $525 million in annual revenue; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Channing's work has resulted in Mt. Sinai receiving a NOVA award by the American Hospital Association for being among the nation's most creative community-oriented hospitals; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Channing serves as a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Hospital Association, as a Regional Policy Board Delegate, and has served as a past chairman of the Illinois Hospital Association, as a past board member of the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council and as a former member of the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board for Region 5; and
WHEREAS, Mr., Channing was named to the 2011 Becker's Hospital Review 'Hospital and Health System Leaders in the Know' list and was an inaugural recipient of Becker's Healthcare 2013 Leadership Awards; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Channing was deeply committed to Sinai's mission for providing care and service to underserved and challenged communities; THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council assemble this 30th day of July 2014, do hereby congratulate Mr. Alan Channing on his retirement in humble acknowledgement of an honorable and successful career in service to those less fortunate; and
