RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright was a former Democratic Majority Leader and Speaker of the House of Representatives who dedicated his life to public service; and
WHEREAS, The son of a professional boxer who became a tailor, the Honorable Jim Wright was born on December 22, 1922, in Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright served during World War II in the United States Army and trained as a bombardier; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright flew combat missions in the South Pacific and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Legion of Merit; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright recalled his wartime service in the 2005 book, The Flying Circus: Pacific War -1943-, As Seen Through a Bombsight; and
WHEREAS, Following the war, the Honorable Jim Wright formed a trade show exhibition and marketing firm and became involved in politics; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright served in the Texas House before becoming the Mayor of Weatherford, Texas at the age of 26; and
WHEREAS, In 1954 the Honorable Jim Wright was elected to Congress where he represented the Fort Worth area until his retirement in 1989; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Jim Wright serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Jim Wright to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jim Wright will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Betty, the Honorable Jim Wright imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Jim Wright for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to- the family of the Honorable Jim Wright.
