RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Maureen "Moe" Clancy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 56; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa; and
WHEREAS, Maureen "Moe" Clancy was a widely admired and respected member of the Avondale community and owner of the beloved Moe's Tavern at 2937 West Milwaukee Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Maureen "Moe" Clancy was the beloved daughter of William and Mary Ann Clancy, and the cherished sister of Billy, Brendan, Kevin, Sheila, and Chris; and
WHEREAS, Maureen "Moe" Clancy opened Moe's Tavern in 2010, paying homage to the famous Moe's Bar from The Simpsons cartoon television series; and
WHEREAS, Maureen was also a respected member of the music community who hosted a number of musical performers at Moe's Bar over the years and even offered them a free place to crash upstairs in her big, four-bedroom apartment. Maureen would also feed them homemade mostaccioli and sandwiches she made with meat from the Kurowski Sausage Shop down the street; and
WHEREAS, Maureen was feisty but warm person who was respected many. Maureen showed her great sense of humor in her response to the cease and desist letter that was sent to her by the Fox Corporation for referencing The Simpsons in her bar. Maureen changed the name of her version of the Flaming Moe cocktail to the "Flaming Cease and Desist" and framing the letter and displaying it at the bar; and
WHEREAS, Her love of live and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Maureen "Moe" Clancy to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Maureen "Moe" Clancy was individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends, and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Maureen "Moe" Clancy imparts a legacy of faithfulness and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty fifth day of January, 2017, do hereby commemorate Maureen "Moe" Clancy for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
