MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his eternal reward, Peter Haywood Jr., beloved citizen and friend, Wednesday, November 26, 2014; and
WHEREAS, This august body was informed of his passing by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and
WHEREAS, Born in Lexington, Mississippi October 13, 1935 to the union of Mary Alice (Tate) and Peter Haywood, Sr., Peter Haywood, Jr., was one of eleven children. Peter graduated from Franklin Elementary School in Holmes County Lexington, Mississippi and furthered his education after moving to Chicago by taking classes in night school. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a faithful member who participated joyously with the congregation; and
WHEREAS, Peter Haywood Jr. served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1956 he and the former Ionia Johnson were married and were blessed with the birth of 8 children. In 1958, Peter moved to Chicago and began his career as a commercial printer at Edison Folding Cartons. After forty years of dedicated service to the company, he retired as a printer and spent more quality time with his loved ones. He enjoyed life and sharing his time with people, he lived life to its fullest. He enriched the lives of the young and the old, and will be deeply missed; and
WHEREAS, Peter Haywood, Jr. leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory his loving family: sons, Lee Porter, Charles (Marilyn), John, Peter III (Elaine); daughters, Mary and Devita (Christopher); grandchildren, Shawnnel, Evette, Dimitrius, Miguel, Latashia, Tony, Marzel, Shavonne, Brittney, Alyssia, Alonzo, Sha'Ron, Vernetta, Malcom, William, Yolanda and Meika; nineteen great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Willie Davis and Charles H. Brooks, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Lillie Williams; two honorary daughters, Elayne Grubbs and Mary Ann Scott and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Peter Haywood Sr.; his loving wife, Ionia; sons, Alonzo and Vernard Haywood; brothers, Earl, Melvin, John Lee, Cornelius and AV Haywood; sisters, Little Sister, Juanita Washington, Ida Taylor, Bernice Davis and Annie Owens; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled here this 10th day of December 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Peter Haywood Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Peter Haywood Jr.
