TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF JOE HENRY ALLEN. JR.
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom and Judgment has granted Mr. Joe Henry Allen, Jr. eternal reward and everlasting peace; and
WHEREAS, The members of this august body has been informed of the passing of this fine citizen and friend, by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman ofthe 8lh Ward;
WHEREAS, On July 28, 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee, Joe Henry Allen was born to his loving and adoring parents, Joe Henry Allen, Sr. and Erma Allen. Joe Henry, the loving son of his devoted parents who treasured him and who shared the joy and laughter that he brought into the Allen Family home was their only child. He was their only child; and
WHEREAS, Joe accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized under the direction of Asbury AME Church in Holly Spring, Mississippi. He attended high school in Holy Springs and received his Bachelors of Education from Rust College and his Master of Arts in Human Relations Service from Governor State University; and
WHEREAS, As a proud solider in the United States Army during the Korean War, Joe Henry Allen served his country proudly and received an Honorable Discharge. After returning home he began his career as an educator. Joe retired as an Assistant Principal after 37 years of dedication to teaching mathematics. He was a person who enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. He enriched the lives of the young and the old. Joe will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband to Louise Allen, a loving father, grand father, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and a good friend and neighbor to many. He will be deeply missed but the memory of his character and compassion will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, On December 17, 2015 Mr. Joe Henry Allen passed away leaving his wife, Louise Allen; sons, Cota B. Allen and Clifford T. (Robbie) Allen; grandchildren, Craig Allen, Quida Cunningham, Sonya Allen, Clifford Allen, Jr., Eric Allen, Laura (Jason) Marcelle, Rhonda Allen, Timothy (Robin) Pamplin; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Marvis DeVasher, Clenastine Bond and Alfragia Crittenden; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Jimmy (Marge) Beatty, Lonnie (Frances) Moore, John Reed, Al Thornton, Richard Lane, Leon Caldwell and his Crerar Memorial Presbyterian Church family to mourn his death and cherish his memory; now therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled here this 13l day of January 2016, do hereby honor the life and memory of Mr. Joe Henry Allen, Jr. and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family; and
