Title: Tribute to late Verneda (Burrow) Barnette

TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF VERNEDA (BURROW) BARNETTE
 
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted Verneda Barnette, an outstanding public servant and member of her community, eternal peace Monday, July 22, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, Verneda Barnette started on her life journey ion December 30, 1949 as the fourth of six children born to the union of Tom and Willie Marie Burrow. She was a graduate of Lucy Flowers High School and attended Chicago Teacher's College. During her time in college Verneda captured the heart of the young man who was to become her husband, Irving Barnette. The young couple united in marriage on July 27, 1968 and together they had five children, Irving LaCliff, Thomas Wesley, Theodore Weldon, Keena DeMara and Bryant Anthony; and
 
WHEREAS, Verneda was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August 1988. She remained a strong and courageous woman even after she was informed that the cancer returned after nineteen years of remission; and
 
WHEREAS, Verneda will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor who enriched the lives of all who knew her in countless ways; and
 
WHEREAS, Verneda Barnette will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she has touched, particularly her five loving children; twenty-one grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister, Helen Williams, aunt Dorothy Ager and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Her parents, brothers, W.H. and Wilbert and sisters, Wilma and Darlene preceded her in death: and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8thWard has informed this august body of the passing of this redoubtable and worthy woman; now therefore
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 11th day of September 2013 A.D., do hereby express our collective sorrow at the passing of Verneda (Burrow) Barnette and extend our sincere condolences to her family members and friends.
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Verneda (Burrow) Barnette.
