MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF ERMA JEAN HARRIS

 

WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to her eternal reward, Erma Jean Harris, outstanding citizen and beloved friend, Saturday October 10, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, This honorable body has been informed of her transition by the Honorable d Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward, and, the Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and

 

WHEREAS, Born March 13, 1938 in Nobel Lake, Arkansas to the blessed union of Harry Hall and Veola Turner, Erma Jean added joy to her parents and siblings' lives. She was the fourth child of eight children who blessed their home; and

 

WHEREAS, Erma and Luther Lee Harmon were united in marriage and to that union three children were born: Michael R., Yvette M. and Kirkland K. Harmon; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1975 Erma and Albert Harris were united in Holy Matrimony and to this union two children were born: Tanya and Tamara; and

 

WHEREASA, Erma was a dedicated employee with Carson Pierre Scott & Company and Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry, before becoming a full time homemaker; and

 

WHEREAS, Erma was a vital and active member of her family and community. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those whose life she touched in countless ways; and

 

WHEREAS, Erma Jean Harris leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory her children, Michael Harmon, Yvette (Richard) Cochran, Kirkland (Clara) Harmon, Tanya Harris and Tamara Harris (Melvin Sexton); two grandsons, Charles and Jonathan; two granddaughters, Tori and Tiara; one great grandson, Jalen; one brother, Chester L. Hall; three sisters, Jettie Mae Turner, Opal (Eric) Tubbs and Carolyn (Nathaniel) Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighteenth day of November 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Erma Jean Harris and extend to her family and loved ones our sincere condolences.
