STREETERVILLE ORGANIZATION OF ACTIVE RESIDENTS (SOAR)
WHEREAS, SOAR is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit corporation managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and was established in May of 1975 as a residential advocacy organization; and
WHEREAS, SOAR is one of the oldest and most respected residential organizations in the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, SOAR's mission is to work on behalf of Streeterville residents to preserve, promote and enhance quality-of-life and community; and
WHEREAS, SOAR's vision is to see Streeterville as a unique and vibrant world class neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, SOAR has, throughout its history, been a strong voice for conserving the historic character of Streeterville and for encouraging development that enables Streeterville to thrive and maintain its diverse composition of residential, business, cultural and institutional make up; and
WHEREAS, SOAR has fought to prevent businesses that would be detrimental to Streeterville < residents from opening in the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, SOAR's Safety Task Force works hand-in-hand with the Chicago Police Department and Alderman Reilly's Office to inform and educate Streeterville residents about safety in an urban environment; and
WHEREAS, SOAR has saved one of the City of Chicago's Farmer's Markets located at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA); and
WHEREAS, SOAR's Farmer's Market has thrived and developed community among Streeterville residents over the last 4 summers; and
WHEREAS, SOAR hopes that its success as a residential neighborhood organization can inspire other neighborhoods and serve as a model organization; and
WHEREAS, SOAR is an invaluable community partner and Alderman Reilly truly values his relationship with the organization; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 20th day of September, 2018, do hereby honor the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the StreetejvjHe Organization of Active Residents by Alderman Brendan Reilly.
