RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Money Jackson on June 17, 2015, an outstanding citizen and member of his community; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, born in Isola, Mississippi to Lula and Ulysses Jackson on January 27, 1929, he was the seventh son of their family; and

 

WHEREAS, after being enchanted by the sister of a friend, Lula Alice Gartley, Money Jackson asked for her hand in marriage and they were married for over fifty years. Their union bore seven children; and

 

WHEREAS, Alfoncy moved to Chicago with his wife and children in the 1950's in search of better opportunities for his family. He became employed at Oscar Mayer where he began as a custodian and later was promoted to elevator operator after he showed an outstanding pride for his work and determined and faithful work ethic; and

 

WHEREAS, beloved by his coworkers, he remained an employee of Oscar Mayer until his retirement, where he was presented with a ring as a token of the company's appreciation for his loyalty and service; and

 

WHEREAS, a man of great faith, Alfoncy spent many years worshipping God, keeping the Sabbath and tithing to his church. He accepted God at an early age and was baptized by Elder Calvin Watkins at the Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church where he became a member under Pastor James D. Parker; and

 

WHEREAS, a friend to many and respected in his community as an example of an excellent father, hard-worker, and good citizen. He had many friends all over the country and delighted in showing them hospitality in his home; and

 

WHEREAS, a dutiful father and a strong man with a soft side for his children, Alfoncy was quick to share his appreciation for the love of his family. He will be deeply missed but the memory of his character and compassion will live on in those who love him; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 29th Day of July, 2015, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning ofthe passing of Alfoncy Jackson, and extend our deepest condolence to his family and loved ones.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that suitable copies ofthis resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Alfoncy Jackson.
