MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Johnnie Mae Howard, most beloved citizen, to her eternal reward on June 21,2016; and

 

WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Johnnie, affectionately called "Tiny", born on November 27, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee to (the late) Sam and (the late) Olivia Harris. Johnnie was the only child born to this union; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie completed her primary education in the Gary, Indiana school system and eventually relocated to Chicago, Illinois. Determined to further her education, Johnnie enrolled in city colleges where she obtained her associates degree; and

WHEREAS, In 1967, Johnnie, a romantic at heart, met and married the love of her life, (the late) Thomas Alton Howard. They were blessed with a daughter, Joneisha Howard. Johnnie and Joniesha, often called "Jo-Jo" or "Josh" by her mother, had a loving bond that could not be broken; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie laughed often and readily flashed her beautiful smile. She enjoyed a regular home bible study program in harmony with Jesus command at John 17:3; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie's outgoing disposition served her well as a public aid supervisor for the Illinois Department of Human Services. She was a dedicated employee for 38 years. She cultivated and maintained close friendships with many of her colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie leaves to cherish her loving memory; her devoted daughter, Joneisha; two aunts, Elvira Boyd and Lula Pickett; three special cousins, Enda Rae Daniel, CJ Pickett and Virginia Butler; a precious foster sister, Danella Cole and her loving family; Tom Bradley and his loving family; her oldest and dearest friend, Gloria Cochran and a host of relatives and friends. Johnnie leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and

 

WHEREAS, Johnnie was an active and vital member of her community. She touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, generosity and spirit, making her a truly unforgettable person. She will be deeply missed, but the remembrance of her smile, caring spirit, enduring patience, thoughtfulness and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her, now, therefore,

 

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twentieth day of July, 2016 A.D., do hereby commemorate Johnnie Mae Howard 'Tiny" for her many lifetime contributions and do hereby extend to her family and many friends our sincere condolences.

 

Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Johnnie Mae Howard.
