RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Alvin C. Tabb on April 27, 2018, outstanding citizen and member of his community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 12, 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee, Alvin was the beloved son of (the late) Manuel and (the late) Inez Tabb. He was the second of five siblings. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Faragut High School. Alvin leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Alvin enlisted in the United States Air Force where he completed his tour of duty with an honorable discharge and letters of favorable communication and appreciation that described his superior performance of duties. Upon returning home, Alvin gained employment with United Airlines and later with AT&T where he retired after twenty-five years of service; and
WHEREAS, Alvin, affectionately known as "Papa Tabb", was truly a man of distinction. As the patriarch of the family, Alvin made it a priority that family spend quality time together, ensuring all gather during holiday celebrations and family gatherings. He believed that family fellowship was as important as education was essential; and
WHEREAS, Alvin had a passion for cooking and hosted many barbeques, Sunday dinners and "just because" get-togethers. One of his specialties was candied yams that melted in your mouth. He enjoyed entertaining and sharing humorous stories with enthusiasm; and
WHEREAS, Alvin leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife of fifty nine years, Bernice; adored children, Darlene, Brian, Eric (Cecelia) and Craig (Geynell); cherished grandchildren, Patrick, Venis, Desiree, Ciera (Peter), Eric II, Ciana, Benjamin, Eugene, Jade and Bajon; precious great-grandchildren, Xaria, Taeyul, Rahmon, Zion, Jaden, Peter Jr., Peyton along with a host of extended family and treasured friends; and
WHEREAS, Alvin touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, and vivacious spirit. A true man of god who will be sorely missed but fondly remembered for his compassion, character, intelligence, great integrity and accomplishments; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning ofthe passing of Alvin C. Tabb and extend our deepest condolence to his family and loved ones.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Alvin C. Tabb.
