RE: Peak Hour Parking Restrictions at 2009 N. Western Avenue
Dear Alderman Waguespack:
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has received your request to evaluate the existing peak hour parking restrictions on Western Avenue in the vicinity of Armilage Avenue. CDOT understands that this request stems from a -local business complaint with regards to the placement and inconsistency of the posted peak hour parking signs along the corridor. Your letter indicated that the peak hour parking signage inconsistencies extend in both directions along the corridor and thus CDOT expanded the study area to include Western Avenue between Division Street and Logan Boulevard.
The existing peak hour parking ordinance information was obtained and compared to the posted peak hour parking signs along the corridor to identify discrepancies. Existing peak hour parking ordinances are in effect on Western Avenue for the following locations and times:
1200 to 2000 N. Western Avenue - west side 7-9 AM/east side 4-6 PM
1540 to 1620 N. Western Avenue - both sides 7-9 AM/4-6 PM
2527 to 2619 N. Western Avenue - east side 4-6 PM
Peak hour parking signs are currently only posted at the following locations:
1951 N. Western Avenue - 4-6 PM
2009 and 2017 N. Western Avenue-
2311 N. Western Avenue - 4-6 PM
4-6 PM
After observing peak hour traffic operations, it is evident that these peak hour restrictions are not needed and thus CDOT recommends that the existing ordinances be repealed. The locations with existing signs where no ordinance is established will be forwarded to the appropriate personnel for removal as shown on the attached signing plans.

Peak Hour Parking Restrictions at 2009 N. Western Avenue
The one peak hour parking sign that actually corresponds to an existing ordinance, posted at 1951 N. Western Avenue, is recommended for removal upon introduction of the following ordinance language to City Council. This sign location happens to fall within the boundaries of the 1st Ward and thus we have copied Alderman Moreno's office on this request.
Repeal ordinance amended March 10,1964, page 2286 which reads: N. Western Avenue, W. Division Street (1200 N.) to W. Armitage Avenue (2000 N.), No Parking west side 7 A.M.-9 A.M. and east side 4 P.M. - 6 P.M., except Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
The following ordinance language should be introduced for the two locations where ordinances exist but there are no peak hour parking restrictions currently posted. Similarly, these signs also fall within the boundaries of the 1st Ward and thus the following ordinance language will need to be introduced by the 1st Ward.
Repeal ordinance passed April 16, 1952, page 2241 which reads: N. Western Avenue both sides, from a point 200 feet north to a point 200 feet south of W. North Avenue (1600 N.), No Parking 7 A.M.-9 A.M. and 4 P.M.-6 P.M., except Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
Repeal ordinance passed April 27, 1960, page 2512 which reads: N. Western Avenue east side, from a point 200 feet north to a point 200 feet south of W. Logan Boulevard (2600 N.), No Parking 7 A.M.-9 A.M. and 4 P.M.-6 P.M., except Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
Please contact Luann Hamilton at (312)-744-1987 with any questions regarding these recommendations.
