WHEREAS, Lisa has survived, and thrived, as Chief of Staff for the Emanuel administration for more than two years, in a position with the traditionally well-deserved reputation as a relentless pressure cooker; and
WHEREAS, Originally a native of Ohio, Lisa earned a bachelor's degree in English literature and political science at Miami University in Ohio, then went on to hone her professional skills on several candidate and issue campaigns, including the 2000 Presidential race with the Democratic National Committee, the Harvey Gantt 1996 campaign for U.S. Senate in North Carolina, and the Better World Campaign to support the United Nations; and
WHEREAS, Lisa came to City government in 2001, and has applied her versatile talents and prodigious energy to a variety of roles, managing policy and communications across a range of city issues and operations in the Mayor's Office, for the Chief Financial Officer, and in the Office of Budget and Management; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Emanuel appointed Lisa as his Chief Operating Officer upon taking office in 2011, and named her as his Chief of Staff on March 15, 2013; and
WHEREAS, In all her positions in City government, but especially as Chief of Staff, Lisa brought unerring good judgment, discipline and stamina to her work. Those who have had the good fortune to work with her admire and enjoy her buoyant good humor and sense of irony, her ability to cheerfully meet daunting challenges head-on, and her sensible, crisp decision-making; and
WHEREAS, Lisa's guiding hand has helped direct the City successfully through many difficult periods, and Chicago - both as a government and as a city - are undoubtedly better places today because of her; and
WHEREAS, We wish Lisa all the best of success and happiness in her future endeavors, and are confident that in whatever she undertakes, she will, as she has done here, succeed famously; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby congratulate Lisa Schrader on her many years of public service and wish her well in her new endeavors; and
