MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF WILLIE PAYTON WILLIAMS
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his heavenly home, Mr. Willie Payton Williams, a beloved citizen, faithful man of God and 8th Ward resident; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of Mr. Willie Payton Williams's transition by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th ward; and
WHEREAS, Willie Payton Williams was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi on September 16, 1942 to his loving parents, Herbert and Bertha Mae Williams. The Williams Family home was blessed with an abundance of joy, love and laughter that was shared daily throughout Willie Payton Williams's life. His many friends and family members affectionately knew him as "Buddy". He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the early age and gave thanks and glory to our heavenly Father; and
WHEREAS, In 1964 Buddy and Gladys were united in marriage and was blessed with the birth of their three loving daughters, Sharon, Tonnette and Angela. Willie Payton Williams was a highly capable and dedicated employee of the United Parcel Service for several years before he became the proud owner of "Buddies Liquors". He remained in business for over 40 years. Buddy was an active member of the Inner City Liquor Association and served on the Central City Scholarship Foundation. He was a board member for ETA and a member of The Chicago Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Willie Payton Williams was a warm and compassionate man, who gave selflessly of his time and energy to family members, friends, church members and neighbors alike. He will be sorely missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and joyful enthusiasm for life will live on in those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, Willie Payton Williams was a vital and active individual to touched the hearts of the young and the old. Mourning their loss of Mr. Willie Payton Williams and cherishing his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Gladys Williams; his children, Sharon Cooper (Edward), Tonnette Williams and Angela Williams; four grandchildren, Jada, Austin, Lauren and Payton; five sisters, Maude Esther Wright, Myrtle Gallison, Alice Mae Williams, Rosie Lee Hendrix and Annie L. Briwder; two brothers, Reverend Jessie Payne (Martha) and Frank Payne (Odessa); a great niece, Thandi; close friend, Deborah Pugh; and a host of other relatives and many special and dear friends. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Bertha Mae Payne Williams, granddaughter, Taylor Alexis Dale and eight siblings; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this thirteenth day of December 2017, A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Willie Payton Williams and extend to his family and friends our sincere condolences.
