RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, March 4, 2014, marked the 25th anniversary of the Elmwood Chapel Funeral home, located at 11200 South Ewing Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised of this milestone by Alderman John Pope of the 10th Ward; and
WHEREAS, the Elmwood Chapel was founded by James and Lu Betkowski, who continue to operate the business with their sons Jim Jr., Joey and Matt; and
WHEREAS, the Betkowski family have always been aware that the death of a loved one can be very challenging to the family of the deceased, because of the sorrow over separation, commingled with the need to make prompt arrangements and decisions; and
WHEREAS, with this awareness, the Betkowski family have always dealt with their clients with more than mere professionalism, but also with compassion, dignity, respect and devotion to family; and
WHEREAS, in their 25 years of service to the East Side, Hegewisch, South Deering, South Chicago and Vets Park and surrounding areas, the Betkowski family have offered consolation and support to over 6,000 families of all faiths and cultures; and
WHEREAS, the Betkowskis and their staff are not just a neighborhood business, but part of the community, remaining active in neighborhood organizations, clubs, churches and civic groups; and
WHEREAS, the professionalism of the Elmwood Chapel has allowed it to expand to other locations, while always maintaining its roots in the Betkowskis' home community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 5th day of March, 2014, do hereby congratulate James and Lu Betkowski on achieving 25 years of service to their community through the Elmwood Chapel; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we wish the Betkowski family and the Elmwood Chapel continued growth and success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this Resolution be presented to Jim and Lu Betkowski as a token of our esteem and appreciation.
