CHRIST THE KING SCHOOL BLUE RIBBON RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Christ the King School was awarded the elite award of National Blue Ribbon 2022 ori September 16, 2022; and

WHEREAS, ThejChicago City Council has been informed of this distinction by the Honorable Matthew O'Shea Alderman of the 19th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Founded by Father Patrick J. Gleeson in 1936 during the Great Depression in the historic Beverly Hills neighborhood, Christ the King Parish and School is currently under the direction of principal, Dr. Ann Marie Riordan, and pastor, Rev. Larry Sullivan; and

WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups; and

WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon recognition was only awarded to 297 schools across the United States in 2022; only thirteen schools in the State have received the Blue Ribbon award, and Christ the King is the only Catholic school in the State to win the award; and

WHEREAS, Christ the King School is committed to academic excellence and encouraging service opportunities using restorative practices in each classroom designed to promote inclusiveness, relationship-building, and problem-solving with confident communication; and

WHEREAS, Christ the King School utilizes a WIN Program (Whatever I Need) as an extra resource to help support 5th through 8th grade students with missing assignments, organizational and homework skills, or just a place for an extra explanation of a lesson they are struggling with; and

WHEREAS, In living up to its motto of "Dream Big", Christ the King School continues to emphasize academic excellence and encourage service opportunities in an erivirqnment rich in Catholic tradition and discipline for its 400 students, ranging from Pre-K to 8th grade; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of twenty-sixth of October 2022 do recognize the achievements of Christ the King School; and
