Declaration of March 6, 2016 as "Vito P. Cali Day" in Chicago

WHEREAS, Vito P. Cali is a proud Italian-American who was bom in Ciminna, Italy and immigrated to Chicago with his family when he was nine years old; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali grew up in Chicago's Near North Side in the St. Phillip Benizi Parish; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali graduated from Lane Tech High School and then attended DePaul University where he majored in marketing and was president of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali met his wife, LeeAnn, when they were teenagers and they have been married since 1960; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali is the proud father of three, grandfather of six and great-grandfather of two; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali is an accomplished agent with State Farm Insurance, having been inducted into the State Farm Hall of Fame in 1981; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali is the president of the Vito P. Cali Insurance Agency; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali added to his impressive professional career with effective leadership in the Italian-American community, having served as the founding president of the Societa San Giovanni Bosco SS Crocifisso di Ciminna from 1960 until 1981, and currently serves as the society's president emeritus; and

 

WHEREAS, under Mr. Cali's leadership the society organized community events and provided for neighbors in need; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali served as chairman of the Italian American Executives of Transportation Charitable Foundation, president of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans, and chairman of the Italo American Soccer Club, the "Maroons;" and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali was honored by the Societa San Giovani Bosco SS Crocifisso di Ciminna as their "Man ofthe Year" on Saturday, March 5, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cali has made countless contributions to Chicago and the region as a professional, a family man, and a true "paesan" to the Italian American community; and

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this sixteenth day of March 2016 A.D., do hereby recognize March 5, 2016 as "Vito P. Cali Day" in Chicago in honor of his faithful service to family, our elders and the greater community; and .

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mr. Cali.
