RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, As the 2015 - 2019 term of the City Council of the City of Chicago draws to a close, this Body bids farewell to several of our colleagues with whom we have had the privilege of serving; and
WHEREAS, The members leaving the City Council at the end of this term are Proco "Joe" Moreno (1st Ward), Toni Foulkes (16th Ward), Ricardo Munoz (22nd Ward), Danny Solis (25th Ward), Milagros "Milly" Santiago (31st Ward), Margaret Laurino (39th Ward), Patrick O'Connor (40th Ward), John Arena (45th Ward), Ameya Pawar (47th Ward), and Joseph Moore (49th Ward); and
WHEREAS, This City Council's accomplishments have been noteworthy. In just four years, this Body has made significant improvements to the quality of life of all of Chicago's residents, including, but certainly not limited to, securing funding for local infrastructure improvements, including new and expanded facilities for public schools, flood controls, and road and bridge repairs; securing TIF funding to encourage the growth of new businesses throughout the City of Chicago; creating mid-size business initiatives and programs to boost local businesses; standing by and strengthening the Welcoming City Ordinance; prohibiting the City's participation in federal registry programs; creating protections for the transgender community; making 21 the minimum age to buy tobacco; taking substantial steps to keep vaping devices and e-cigarettes out ofthe hands of teens; passing legislation supporting efforts to achieve equal pay for women; enacting legislation to protect all city residents from sexual harassment; protecting affordable housing; enacting paid sick leave for all residents; and establishing an Office of Labor Standards; and
WHEREAS, The members of this Body have engaged in spirited debates, and while not always agreeing on every measure or initiative placed before them, these discussions ensured that diverse points of view were heard and considered. This engagement showed that each member of this Body had the best interests ofthe City and its residents in mind; and
WHEREAS, While we are sad to lose aldermen with whom we have worked so hard to accomplish so much, we are grateful for the time we have served together, and for the contributions each has made to the well-being of the City and its current and future generations; and
WHEREAS, The residents living in the wards of each of our departing aldermen have greatly benefitted from the representation and strong advocacy each alderman has afforded; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2019, do hereby express our sincere thanks and appreciation to each of the departing aldermen, and offer them our warmest and best wishes for their future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to each of these aldermen as a token of our appreciation and esteem.
