RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING TSHE LIFE OF EDDIE MAE ALFORD

 

WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to her eternal reward, Eddie Mae Alford, beloved citizen and friend, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the age of 88; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward has informed this august body of her passing; and

 

WHEREAS, Born October 30, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama, Eddie Mae was the loving daughter Eddie and Katie Sanders. Eddie Mae lived and received her education in Kentucky. She moved to Chicago at the age of 17. Eddie Mae captured the heart of a young man who was to become her loving husband, Teddie Alford. This young couple exchanged their wedding vows and began a new life as husband and wife. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Sabrina; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1947 Eddie Mae began her career with the University of Illinois Hospital as a licensed practical nurse. She worked in the nursery, enjoying taking care of babies and others, after forty years of dedicated service and devotion to the patients, she retired; and

 

WHEREASA, In 1959 Eddie Mae Alford accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully with the Victory Club, preparing meals for Sunday services. Eddie continued to serve under Pastor Charles Jenkins until her health began to fail in late 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie Mae Alford, a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; and

 

WHEREAS, Eddie Mae Alford leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her daughters, Sabrina Alford and Fredya Jones; one special aunt, Mamie; cousins, Diane Campbell, Solomon James and Larnetta; very special friends, Katherine Hinton, Deacon Floyd Moffitt and Bessie Darling, and a host of other relatives and friends. Her parents, Eddie and Katie Sanders; her brother, Carey Sanders and the love of her life, her husband, Teddie Alford preceded her in death; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-ninth day of March 2017 A.D., do hereby extend our condolences to the family and friends of Eddie Mae Alford and express our'deepest sympathy upon her passing.

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Eddie Mae Alford
