TRIBUTE TO LATE ARTHUR L. JOHNSON
WHEREAS, Arthur L. Johnson, a most beloved citizen, friend and remarkable member of his community in Chicago, has been called home by our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his transition by the Honorable Toni L. Foulkes, Alderman ofthe 15th Ward; and
WHEREAS, In his infinite wisdom our Lord chose July 17, 2013, on his 77th birthday, to call Arthur to Eternal Life; and
WHEREAS, Arthur L. Johnson was born July 17,1936 to the late Tommy Johnson, Sr. and Tishann (Waller) Johnson of Selma, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Arthur graduated from R.B. Hudson High School in Selma, AL in 1954. After graduating he enlisted into the United States Army where he was honorably discharged in 1962. Arthur returned to Selma to help his father raise his three younger siblings; while home Arthur enrolled in Selma University; and
WHEREAS, Later in life, Arthur moved to Detroit, Ml where he was employed by United Parcel Service. He made very special friends there and was honored to become the godfather to Colette Marshall and Cleo Fulghum, Jr. Arthur then relocated to Chicago, IL where he worked as a Home Health Care worker until his health failed; and
WHEREAS, Arthur was a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, In honoring the memory of this much-loved man who has been called to eternal, condolence is often expressed to all those whose lives the deceased may have touched; and
WHEREAS, Arthur leaves to cherish his memory, three loving sisters, Rosie Mae (Oliver) Clark of Selma, AL, Cornelia (Gene) Barnes of Chicago, IL, Lubertha Middleton of Mobile, AL, two loving brothers, Tommy Johnson Jr. of Chicago, IL and Daniel Johnson of Dallas, TX, one aunt Mrs. Emma Johnson (Wonzalee) of Buffalo, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council gathered here this eleventh day of September 2013, do hereby express our heartfelt sorrow upon hearing the news of Arthur L. Johnson's passing and offer our best wishes that their grief will soon be replaced by the warmth of his memory.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Arthur L. Johnson.
