RESOLUTION HONORING GHANA FEST
WHEREAS, Ghana National Council is a charitable organization originally founded as an African Students Union that has provided cultural and educational services for the Ghanaian community in the City of Chicago for more than 27 years and
WHEREAS, the Ghanaian community is represented by the Ghana National Council incorporated January 4th 1984 with a goal to keep Ghanaians together and educate the children born in the Diaspora on the preservation of the cultural heritage and
WHEREAS, today Ghana National Council provides an array of cultural and educational services and focuses on improving preservation of African cultural heritage creating recreational and cultural opportunities for Ghanaians and the general public and
WHEREAS, among the many beneficial and positive programs and activities operated by the Ghana National Council are settlement services, welfare support programs and the Ghana Fest and
WHEREAS, the Ghana Fest, originally a cultural celebration in August in 1987 called the "Homowo" festival organized by the leaders of the Ga-Dangme tribe and the Ghana Chicago Club, now since 1990 under the auspices of the Ghana National Council, adopted the name Ghana Fest, an all Ghanaian cultural extravaganza celebrated every last Saturday in July to promote the taste of African cuisine and portraying the Chiefs and Queens of Ghana in dance and display and
WHEREAS, on July 30th 2011 Ghana National Council will hold its 23rd Ghana Fest at Washington Park in Chicago, Illinois and
WHEREAS, today Alderman William D. Burns honors the Ghanaian community for their contribution to the rich cultural diversity of the City of Chicago now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this 28th day of July, 2011, do hereby congratulate Ghana National Council and the Ghanaian community on the celebration of its 23rd annual Ghana Fest and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. John Henry Assabill, President of Ghana National Council.
