SALUTE TO THE 40'" ANNIVERSARY OF THE BUCKTOWN COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION
WHEREAS, The Bucktown Community Organization is celebrating four decades of service to the neighborhood that is bounded by Fullerton Avenue on the north, Western Avenue on the west, North Avenue on the south and the Chicago River on the east; and
WHEREAS, The Bucktown Community Organization strives to promote the general welfare of Bucktown neighborhood residents. This outstanding organization seeks to complement the efforts of governmental and other public agencies by supporting educational, social, recreational, environmental, and cultural enrichment activities that serve the needs and interests of community children, youth, families, and seniors; and
WHEREAS, The Bucktown Community Organization promotes a spirit of cooperation, goodwill and neighborliness that encourages people to openly communicate and take action for positive change in the community. This organization's actions assure the quality and availability of public and private community services in order to enhance the safety and well-being of those who live and work in Bucktown; and
WHEREAS, The Bucktown Community Organization collects and distributes information about topics of interest to the community and provides a public forum for residents and business owners to express their opinions. In addition, the organization works with public officials, private citizens, and other local agencies to protect and preserve the historic diversity of the area, including housing stock, people, cultural capacity, and other characteristics of the community, a classic Victorian architecture neighborhood with roots going back to the 1840's, that makes it so unique; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2"d Ward, has apprised this august body of the significant milestone achieved by this noteworthy community based organization; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together on this 11th Day of December, 2013, do hereby salute the Bucktown Community Organization for making a difference in that neighborhood since its inception in 1973 and extend our very best wishes for its continuing commitment and success in the fulfillment of its praiseworthy civic mission.
