WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the peaceful departure of Sadie Mae McCollum on June 28, 2016; and

WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Sadie was bom on June 18, 1939 to the union of Tonimie and Carrie Giles in Geiger, Alabama; she was the second of nine children bom to this union; and

WHEREAS, Sadie graduated from North Sumter High School in Panola, Alabama and then began a new chapter in her life by moving to Chicago in I960; and

WHEREAS, Sadie married the love of her life Eddie Christopher McCollum on April 17,2003 and together they shared many vocations throughout their union; and

WHEREAS, Sadie worked at the VA Hospital for over twenty-years and specialized in persona] healthcare; and

WHEREAS, Sadie was a wonderful mother to her children and community. She stayed in touch with numerous friends and was revisited by them over the years; and

WHEREAS, Sadie was a faithful woman of her word and was an active member at New Greater True Light M.B. Church and then Maypole Avenue Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, Sadie touched the lives of all who knew her, serving her community with dignity and passion. She will be deeply missed; and

WHEREAS. Sadie is remembered through the memories of her four daughters: Glenda, Cynthia Jacqueline and Arnita, six granddaughters: Ebony, Tyesha, Tempestt, Kelli, Ashley, Dominique, two grandsons: Kenneth, Donte', one sister: Annie, six brothers: Tommie, Donald, Willie, Albert, Alvin. And Robert, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Sadie McCollum; and
