SALUTE TO DR. C.L. BROOKINS
WHEREAS, Dr. C.L. Brookins was born November 8. 1930 in Yazoo County, Mississippi, where he accepted Christ at the age of 11. He attended Dunbar High School, Moody Bible Institute. Chicago Baptist Institute, Roosevelt University, Columbia Basic College in Pasco, WA, and Trinity College in Newburgh, IN; and
WHEREAS, Dr. C.L. Brookins served as a pastor for 49 years at True Foundation Transformation Church. He served in a number of leadership positions such as President of The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (TMA) in Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland Washington, Board of Directors member of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation in Pasco, WA, First Vice-Moderator of the Tri-State Baptist District Association, Third Vice-Moderator of the Tri-State Baptist District Association, First Vice President of Pacific North West General State Sunday School and BTU Congress. Aside from his religious duties, he assumed many civic duties. Fie held leadership positions within the various communities he served, conducted revivals, implemented the first Black Religious Broadcasting service in Pasco, Washington and his was the first black church to broadcast over Radio Station WEDC-FM in this city; and
WHEREAS, Dr. C.L. Brookins has produced many years of weekly radio broadcasts over various Chicago area stations, as well as a weekly telecast. "The Inspirational Hour," that still airs over Chicago Cable TV Channel 36 twice weekly. He has been united in Holy Matrimony to Mary F. Brookins for 60 wonderful years. This union has been blessed with four boys (one of whom has passed) and four girls and were all actively involved in churches throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, Dr. C.L. Brookins has helped many throughout his career and will be greatly missed all throughout the city of Chicago. He has touched many people with his courage and intelligence. We wish him well in all future endeavors and the best of luck; and
BE IT RESOLVED; That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled on this 9lh Day of February AD, do hereby salute Dr. C.L. Brookins for his service in the community, extend our very best wishes for a Happy 80lh Birthday, and express our hope for success in all future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Dr. C.L. Brookins.
