^Oh&fBUS ' Tne 933'd Military Police Company, based at Fort Sheridan, mobilized on August 7, 2012 and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, was honored at a homecoming ceremony June 15, 2013 at O'Hare International Airport; and
 
WHEREAS, Since the company worked with the Special Forces troops in Afghanistan much of their mission is classified. The military police of the 933rd were divvied up among four remote combat posts in Afghanistan, successfully completing such missions as guard operations and prison escort; and
 
WHEREAS, During deployment, six !of the 933rd were awarded Bronze Stars, 76 earned Army Commendation Medals, 42 acquired Army Achievement Medals and 19 received Combat Action Badges; and
 
WHEREAS, Commanded by Captain Thomas Gilligan of suburban Bolingbrook, the men and women of the 933rd who served under him selflessly gave up the comfort of their homes to defend freedom in a foreign land far away from their families and friends. There were 10 soldiers who missed the birth of their babies and saw their infants for the first time during their homecoming ceremony; and
 
WHEREAS, Although the 933rd is relatively new to the Fort Sheridan community, it was in late 2010 that the unit moved from Waukegan to a new $30 million readiness center at Fort Sheridan that offered state-of-the-art training facilities. Last mobilized from February 2003 to July 2004, the 933rd was one of the first Illinois National Guard units deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

WHEREAS, The 933rd Military Police Company has a remarkable and noteworthy history of service from mobilizations in support of Desert Storm in 1990 to fighting in the WWII Pacific Theatre alongside Gen. Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines that earned the unit an award for gallantry from the Philippine President for serving from 1943 to 1945; Soldiers in the 933rd also fought in World War I, earning a unit award for bravery and honor in battle in 1918; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable James A. Balcer, Alderman of the 11Th Ward and a Vietnam veteran, has apprised this august body of the mission truly accomplished and the heartfelt homecoming of the 933rd Military Police Company of the Illinois National Guard; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this twenty-fourth day of July, 2013, salute the brave men and women soldiers of the 933rd Military Police Company of the Illinois National Guard and extend our warmest welcome back from the harsh realities of combat to be enfolded into the loving arms of their families and embraced by their grateful communities; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the 933rd Military Police Company of the Illinois National Guard.
