MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Willie L. (Billy) Flcnnoy, most beloved citizen to his eternal reward on July 26, 2014; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Willie L. Flennoy, known by all as "Billy", was born on August 21, 1931 in Hayti, Missouri to devoted parents, Samuel and Willie Mae Flennoy, who preceded him in death. Billy accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Beginning his elementary education at Hayti, Missouri Public School system and concluded in the Chicago Public Schools, Billy continued on to Wendell Phillips High School while employed at the Armour Stock Yard Company serving for over 10 years, proving that one can still achieve a level of educational success while helping contribute financially to the family; and
WHEREAS, Billy met the love of his life, Dannese Taylor in Chicago, Illinois and united in holy matrimony on March 19, 1973, their union was blessed with six children: Pamela, Penny, Anissa, Stanford, Lawrence and Jermaine; and
WHEREAS, He began his career as an auditor with the Illinois Secretary of State. Billy retired in December 2000 after more than 25 years of service and was beloved and admired by his coworkers; and
WHEREAS, Billy lived in the Chatham community in the 6th Ward where he developed an interest in politics. Under the leadership of Alderman Eugene Sawyer he was appointed precinct captain and held this volunteer position for several years, delighting in getting to know his neighbors and staying active in his community; and
WHEREAS, In 1978, he and his family relocated to the Victory Heights Community of Chicago and in 1983 became active members of the Community Covenant Church of Calumet Park, Illinois under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Donald Davenport where Billy served as chairperson of the Trustee Board; and
WHEREAS, In this time of grief, Billy's family also celebrates his life and cherishes his memory, his devoted and loving wife, Dannese; his adoring children, Pamela, Penny, Anissa (Wayne), Stanford (LaWanda), Lawrence (Joselyn), Jermaine (Angela), and his beloved brothers, Samuel Wayne (Walrea), Ralph Walker and dear sisters, Geraldine Nolen, Versoal Collier along with a host of precious grandchildren, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, Billy touched the lives of all who knew him through his generosity, unconditional love and his spirit. He will be deeply missed but the remembrance of his character, skill, and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of September, 2014 A.D., do hereby honor the life and memory of Willie L. "Billy" Flennoy and extend to his family and many friends our sincere condolences.
Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Willie L. "Billy" Flennoy.
