RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber are proud to congratulate our friend and colleague, Alderman Milagros "Milly" Santiago, on her four years of dedicated and outstanding service to the people ofthe 31s1 Ward and the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Alderman Santiago has lived in the 31st Ward for over 32 years. While living in Chicago she worked in the media industry for over 20 years, in newspapers, radio, and television. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Northeastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, First elected as Alderman ofthe 31st Ward in 2015, Alderman Santiago was a trailblazer in being the second Hispanic woman to be elected to the City Council; and

WHEREAS, Alderman Santiago dedicated herself to improving citywide conditions for the disadvantaged, co-sponsoring ordinances which protect seniors in subsidized housing; increase incentives for companies who employ in their management and workforce members of socially and economically disadvantaged groups who have traditionally been subject to discrimination; prohibit City contractors from asking about their prospective employees' salary history; and change City policy to strengthen prohibitions against sexual harassment; and

WHEREAS, During her tenure in office, Alderman Santiago prioritized infrastructure and public safety improvements in the 31st Ward. Under her leadership, in which she jointly collaborated with her constituents through participatory budgeting, she had streets and alleys resurfaced, street lights replaced, sidewalks repaired, and traffic flow improved; and

WHEREAS, Alderman Santiago served with distinction on many Chicago City Council committees, including as a member of the Committee on the Budget and Government Operations; the Committee on Committees, Rules, and Ethics; the Committee on Economic, Capital, and Technology Development; the Committee on Human Relations; the Committee on Special Events, Cultural Affairs, and Recreation; and the Committee on Transportation and Public Way; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this tenth day of April, 2019, do hereby extend to Alderman Milagros Santiago our deepest gratitude and thanks for her years of exceptional service to the people of Chicago, and our best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Alderman Milagros Santiago as a token of our appreciation and esteem.
