MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Dorothy L. Nute to her eternal reward, October 2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman ofthe 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Bom on October 3, 1929 in a small town of Lake Providence, Louisiana to the union of Clara and David Minter. Dorothy, affectionately called Sud (short for sister) by her family, was the fourth bom of eleven children, Harry, Percy, Pearl, Roy Lee, Samuel, Ollie Pearl, Willie, Frank, Cleve and Roosevelt, nine of whom have preceded her in death; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy, lovingly called Mo Nute, received her education in the East Carroll Parrish school system. After high school graduation, she met and married the love of her life, Charlie Nute in December of 1948. The two shared their life as one for 38 years until his death in 1986. To this union, seven children were bom. One son, Edward, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories: five sons, Charles, Frederick, David, Berry and Joseph; two daughters: Ivy and Kimberly (Jerome); eight grandchildren, Lisa, Terrence, Quinn, Evelyn, Chimere, Bria, Kimani and Jerome, Jr.; Ten great grandchildren, MiAsia, Eljah, Taya, Nylah, Armani, Keyon, Tate, Darryl, Terrence Jr., and Ezaire; She loved and encouraged her family to do their best and to keep God first; and
WHEREAS, Mo Nute began her walk with Christ at an early age. At the age of 11, she sat on the mourner's bench and was filled with the dynamite power of the Holy Ghost. After relocating to Chicago, she joined Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late founder Rev. Louis Boddie. She was an active member of the Progressive Club under the late Sis. Clyde Horton and was later appointed president under the late Elder Henry Bracken where she served until her death. She was known for her prayer life and wise counsel. Dorothy was a role model who guided women how to be good wives and mothers; and
WHEREAS, Mo Nute had a passion for working with the youth of the church. She served as a volunteer in the junior church, working with Mo. Cole and the Sylvia Boddie Youth Choir. She later became mother of the junior church and served faithfully for over 30 years. She was known as the candy lady who brought cheer to a child with a hug and peppermint candy; and
WHEREAS, Mo Nute was a vital part of her community as well. She was active in her block club, always ensuring that the annual block club party would take place without any problems. She worked with her Alderman to make sure that services and projects were addressed on her block. She represented the Roseland Community at Mayor Daley's luncheon for seniors. She participated in several senior groups; the 5th District Police Station's senior group, Lilydale Progressive Baptist Church's Keenager group and the Greater Harvest senior group; and
WHEREAS, She worked at Lamp Craft and the Chicago Public Schools for many years. She also had an entrepreneurial spirit selling Amway and Avon among using her other talents to earn extra money; and
WHEREAS, Mo Nute lived life to the fullest. She loved sitting on her porch looking at her beautiful flowers and getting daily visits from a white butterfly. She enjoyed having long conversations on the phone with her friends and spiritual children, ending the call with "alright now" or "have a blessed day", never saying goodbye. So, we won't say goodbye, but we will see you later; and
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of November, 2014 A.D., do hereby commemorate her many lifetime contributions and do hereby extend to her family and many friends our sincere condolences.
