TRIBUTE TO LATE MAE CATHERINE SCOTT WILLIAMS
WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom has called Mae Catherine Scott Williams, most beloved citizen and friend to her eternal reward, Saturday, July 20, 2013; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman ofthe 34th Ward: and
WHEREAS, Born January 4, 1933 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mae Catherine was the loving child of Lois and Frank Scott. The Scott family moved to Chicago when Mae Catherine was a young child. She received her education from St. Elizabeth Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School. Mae attended South Suburban College and majored in Business Administration: and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Christian Missionary Baptist Church where she served on many ministries for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Mae matured into a young lady filled with an abundance of grace, charm, and intelligence and soon captured the heart of the young man who was to become her husband, George Williams. Mae Catherine and George Williams were united in holy matrimony and were blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters; and
WHEREAS, Mae was employed with the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation, the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and retired from Sara Lee Corporation after twenty-five years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Mae Catherine Scott Williams was recognized for her outstanding community support. As a community organizer, she worked tirelessly rising campaign funds and registering a vast number of voters during the former Mayor, Harold Washington campaign; and
WHEREAS, A cherished friend and good neighbor to all, Mae Catherine Scott Williams had enriched the lives of the young and the old. She will be deeply missed but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; and
WHEREAS, Mae Catherine Scott Williams was a vital and active member of her family and community who will be sorely missed. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, two loving daughters, Lois Williams and Dr. Angela Scott Strauther (Darryl); one son, Rodryck Scott (Lenora); fifteen great grandchildren, one daughter in-law, Harriett Scott; brother in-law, Tommy Smith; niece, Patricia McSpadden (Edward); nephew, Dorian Ellison; two cousins, Corky McClerkin (Winnie) and Melvin McClerkin; several god children; a very special friend, Barry Black and a host of other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Kenneth and Howard and her sister, Mary Smith; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eleventh day of September 2013 A.D., do hereby express our sincerest sorrow on the passing of Mae Catherine Scott Williams and extend our deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Mae Catherine Scott Williams.
