A Resolution Honoring the Life of Rosetta Gadlei

WHEREAS, The members of this City Council Chamber were deeply saddened to} learn of the passing of Rosetta Gadlen on October 5, 2013, an outstanding citizen of th » Austin community in Chicago, by 37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts. Recently, Rc >etta Gadlen finished her race as a strong Christian woman of faith and has ascended receive her crown of righteousness in the hallowed halls of heaven.
WHEREAS, Rosetta Gadlen, known to everyone as the family's "Super Soul Sistir' was born into existence on July 3,1949 in Darien, Georgia to Bennie and Louise $loan, one of the children born of this loving union; and
WHEREAS, Rosetta Gadlen received her strong sense of spiritual direction from Christ at an early age. Further, Rosetta had an unwavering faith in God and was a steadfast member of Saint Stephen A.M.E. Church for 44 years.
WHEREAS, Rosetta joined the Usher Board and served as board president, zonk recording secretary, zone financial secretary, zone junior supervisor, state financ al secretary, and state board member and was currently serving as chairperson of tie Board of Director's for the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Ruthie was a long-time resident of the 37th Ward for over twenty-one years, who in retirement, happily indulged in her favorite pastime of cooking fanfc meals for her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rosetta was the loving wife of Mr. Robert Gadlen, Sr. who deeply moi rns her loss, and the proud mother of Robert Gadlen, Jr. (daughter-in-law Tasha), and grandmother of grandsons Jacob and Joshua; and
WHEREAS, Rosetta was one of several children, and when she transitioned from life on October 5th, she joined her brothers and sisters who preceded her in death, an i
leaves to cherish her precious memories: Jerry Carter, Bennie Sloane, Mary Bradley, Julia Sloan (deceased), Alphonsa Sloan (deceased), John Sloan, Sr., Willie SlonelSr. Delorise Carter, Jeraldine Harris, Evonne Jackson, Arvell Sloan, Warren Sloan Sr Doritha Sloan, Toriano Cray ton, Sr. (deceased); and
WHEREAS, Rosetta Gadlen was well-known and beloved for her quick smile, soJt and warm heart and!a deep commitment to making life better for all, she also enjoyed celebrating with close friends and relatives, with a unique gift for making people a ugh and feel comfortable. She enjoyed fishing, playing card games and shopping witl friends, especially garage and estate sales; She loved the color blue and loved 'E lues' music, her favorite flowers were roses and chicken was her absolute favorite foot ; and
WHEREAS, On October 5, 2013 after a season of illness, she took her well-deser /ed earthly rest and! quietly left this life - - taking up residence in her new heavenly hofne; and now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby applaud the exceptional life of the late Rosetta Gadlen on the behalf of the citizens of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Rosetta Gadlen as a sign of our sympathy and goop wishes.
