RESOLUTION
 
 
 
WHEREAS, Zdzislaw Jason Torba was born in the town of Nisku, Poland on April 12, 1965 to Janina (nee Ryczko) and Kazimierz Torba. Zdzislaw Jason Torba is the uncle to his sister Dorota and her husband Janusz three children; and,
WHEREAS, Zdzislaw Jason Torba attended elementary school in Krzeszow (1972-1980), attended and graduated from high school in Nisko (1980 - 1985); and,
WHEREAS, After graduating, Zdzislaw Jason Torba applied for admission to the Lublin Seminary (in southeastern Poland) which is part ofthe Catholic University of Lublin. At that time, it was the only functioning Catholic University in the entire communist sector of Eastern Europe. He completed his seminary studies and on May 18, 1991 was ordained into the priesthood; and,
WHEREAS, Father Jason Torba's first assignment was with CARITAS (Catholic Charities) in the Lublin Archdiocese. Meanwhile, he attended and completed specialty studies in philosophy at the Catholic University of Lublin. He also worked for the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, and assisted at a number of churches on Sundays; and,
WHEREAS, In 1997, Father Jason Torba met with his superior Archbishop Jozef Zycinski, who asked him to work for the Archdiocese of Chicago. August 30, 1998, after the formalities between Archbishop Zycinski and Cardinal Francis George were finalized, he arrived in Chicago and assigned to St. Constance Church on the northwest side of Chicago; and,
 
WHEREAS, One of the purposes of Father Jason Torba's trip to the United States was to serve Polonia, the Polish speaking community. Recognizing the need to also serve the English speaking community, he enrolled for English language classes at Truman College. After completion, he attended the University of Illinois, Chicago campus for advanced classes; and,
WHEREAS, At the beginning of 2003, Father Jason Torba made a decision to become a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago and was accepted by Cardinal Francis George. His new assignment as an incardination process to only English speaking parish was at St. Mary in Evanston, in which he served from July 15, 2003 until January 30, 2006; and,
 
WHEREAS, On February 1, 2006, Father Jason Torba received a new calling from the Archdiocese to move to St. Ferdinand Parish. On June 9, 2006, he was officially incardinated into the Archdiocese of Chicago. Then on July 1, 2006, Cardinal Francis George appointed him as a Pastor of St. Ferdinand Parish where he continues to serve and guide the parish community; and,
 
WHEREAS, On April 11, 2015, the parish community of St. Ferdinand Church will gather together in celebration of Father Jason Torba's birthday, giving thanks and well wishes to the beloved Pastor; and now therefore,
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED,   That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 15th day of April 2015 A.D., do hereby offer our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Father Zdzislaw Jason Torba; and,
