NORMAN BOBINS 80TH BIRTHDAY RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Norman "Norm" Bobins will celebrate his 80th birthday on November 14th, 2022; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of this milestone by the Honorable Matthew O'Shea, Alderman of the 19th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 14, 1942, on the south side of Chicago, Norm would go on to marry his childhood sweetheart Virginia; they share their beloved son, Robert, who grew up to become a teacher; and
WHEREAS, Norm earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1964 and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1967; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Mr. Bobins decided to pursue a banking career and started working at American National Bank and Trust Company; he held various commercial lending positions before moving to the Exchange National Bank of Chicago in April of 1981 before it was acquired by LaSalle Bank Corporation; and
WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Bobins is the chief executive of the financial consulting firm Norman Bobins Consulting LLC, which was formed in 2008 after his retirement from LaSalle Bank Corporation as chairman, president and chief executive officer in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Even after his retirement, Mr. Bobins has remained active in the City's business community; he serves as the vice chairman of CIBC U.S. Region and serves on the CIBC Bank USA Board of Directors as well as the boards of Pangea Properties, Hilco Global, Halo Parent Holdings, L.P., and OW Holdings Corporation; Mr. Bobins also served on the Board of Directors of AAR CORP. for 12 years before retiring in 2019, Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. for five years before retiring in 2020 and Transco, Inc., for 47 years before retiring in 2022; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving his community and his City, Mr. Bobins was a member of the Chicago Board of Education, having been appointed by Mayor Richard M. Daley to four consecutive terms; Norm is also a former Chairman of the Board ofthe Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and he was appointed as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and completed his term of service in November 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bobins continues his service to this day as a member of the Boards of Directors ofthe Brain Research Foundation, Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, and the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority as well as a life trustee for Navy Pier and the Field Museum; and
WHEREAS, An avid supporter ofthe arts in the City, Norm currently serves on the Advisory Board of The Conservation Center and has previously served on the Executive Board of the Auditorium Theatre Council, the Terra Foundation for American Art, and The Art Institute of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bobins has received numerous awards including the 2022 American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science Leadership Award; The Civic Federation's 2018 Lyman J. Gage Award for Outstanding Civic Contribution by a Chicagoan; Illinois Bankers Association 2014 Illinois Banker of the Year Award; the 2012 Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship; the 2007 Order of Lincoln, the state of Illinois' highest award; the 2007 Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce's Daniel H. Burnham Distinguished Leadership Award; the 2003 University of Chicago Graduate School of Business' Distinguished Corporate Alumnus Award; and the 1992 Human Rights Medallion from the American Jewish Committee; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fourth day of November 2022 do hereby wish the happiest of birthdays to Mr. Bobins; and
