TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF GREGORY THOMAS SUMLIN
 
 
WHEREAS, On March 10, 2015 Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom and judgment, called Gregory Thomas Sumlin to his eternal reward; and
 
WHEREAS, Gregory Thomas Sumlin was born March 1, 1958 to the union of Thomas and Beatrice Sumlin. He was the second child of the five children who blessed the Sumlin Family home. As a very happy and energetic child, Gregory and his siblings brought much happiness and memorable moments into their home and at all the various family events; and
 
WHEREAS, Gregory Thomas Sumlin, a devout Christian accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and gave praise to the Lord as an active member of the Baptist church. Greg graduated from Hirsch High School in 1976, and it was during those years that he began to experience the excitement of becoming an entrepreneur, just like his father who was the owner of a television repair and record shop. Greg loved the game of football and chess but he was fascinated with electronics and repairing things. In the early 1980's he and his father successfully opened and operated a furniture and appliance resale shop. Greg eventually got into the field of cable network communications. He received a major contract with Direct TV and became their regional installer; and
 
WHEREAS, Gregory Thomas Sumlin was loved by all the people with whom he came in contact. His love of life and passion for food and cooking brought many together at the annual reggae picnic and the two major annual picnics that were held every Fathers's Day and Fourth of July; and
 
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of the passing of Mr. Gregory Thomas Sumlin by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8lh Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and
 
WHEREAS, Gregory Thomas Sumlin leaves to celebrate his life and cherish a host of loving memories; his beloved lifelong companion and dearest friend, Cecile Jones; his parents, Beatrice Sumlin and the late Thomas Sumlin; his child, Tamika Harris; his grandchild, Yazmine Fowler; his siblings, Stanley Sumlin (Janice), Aliscia Jones (Michael), Jessie Sumlin, Darlene Sumlin, Tammy Sumlin, and Deshon Sumlin; an aunt, Delores Fields; nephews, nieces, and cousins: LaNeesha Givens (Kevin), Christa Talbott (Sean), Brian Barker, Darrell Riley, Rashaad Riley, Syana Sumlin, Stephano Jones, Darius ius Richard, Brandi Nelson, Nehmiah Barker; very special cousins ZsaZsa Fields and Torreey Cofield and a host of extended family members and close friends; now therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this fifteenth day of April 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon the passing of Gregory Thomas Sumlin and extend our deepest condolences to his many family members and friends.
