MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Edward Anthony Lockman, most beloved citizen, to his eternal reward, February 17, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 1, 1931 in Natchez, Mississippi, Edward A. Lockman was the adored son of the late Dorothy Brown. Later, Edward relocated to St. Louis, Missouri where he would be under the loving guidance of his Uncles, Jesse and Sylvester Lockman. There he enrolled in high school and after classes would work on the family farm; and
WHEREAS, Edward accepted Christ at an early age, a proud Lutheran. He often attended church with his grandfather, William H. Lockman. Later, he was bestowed the honor of receiving his grandfather's engraved 1956 Bible. Edward was a faithful member first at St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Chicago and then at Salem Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, In 1951, upon graduating high school, Edward began his life journey and moved to Chicago, Illinois where he was hired at Walgreens Drug Store working in the stock room. In 1953, he was enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. He rendered a meritorious service and was honorably discharged in 1955; and
WHEREAS, Edward returned to Chicago and continued his career with Walgreens Drug Store. Edward proved his commitment to hard work as well as his trustworthiness and loyalty that earned him a promotion to Store Manager. He went on to become a Pharmacist after achieving a degree in pharmaceutical. Recognized as a valued employee he received a much more deserving promotion of District Manager for the downtown loop area where he worked until his retirement in 1988. Not very long after, Edward came out of retirement and began his second career with Illinois Security Service, a job he loved going to everyday until his final retreat in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Edward met and married the love of his life, Mable and to this union were blessed with a blended family. They raised their children as a Christian family, where importance of having Christ in one's life was taught and exemplified. They also made it a priority for the family to spend quality time together; and
WHEREAS, Edward truly enjoyed the game of golf. He played often with his Uncle Sylvester, many friends and his sons, specifically David, who was his constant golf buddy; and
WHEREAS, Edward leaves to cherish his memory; six daughters, Rosemary, Sherrie (Anthony) Burrage, Patricia, Debra, Elaine and Josephine (Sam) Evans; four sons, David, Mark (Sabrina), Cecil and Darrell; fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a host of extended family and treasured friends who had the pleasure of knowing him; and
WHEREAS, Edward is preceded in death; one sibling, Mildred Ellis; one child, Anthony Edward Jr.; one grandson, Juan Gavin; one granddaughter, Camala Palmer, two uncles, Jess and Sylvester; one aunt, Lucille; a loving mother, Dorothy Brown; and
WHEREAS, Edward, a true man of god will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered for his great integrity and accomplishments; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this nineteenth day of April, 2017 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Edward Anthony Lockman and express to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
